In April 2021, the Central Commission for Biological Safety (ZKBS) changed the footnotes in the list of risk-assessed donor and recipient organisms.

The footnotes in the organism list and the organism database indicate special features that must be observed. A new footnote, "Va," has now been introduced. As a new innovation, officially approved vaccine strains that are classified in risk group 1 only if the production conditions approved by the approval authority (number of passages, cell culture or host systems, etc.) are met, can now be listed in the organism list and marked with this footnote.
