Let us reiterate: The new GenTSV has been in force since March 2021. What changes have been made to the organizational measures in S1 animal husbandry areas? It has already been established that the amendment to the GenTSV has led to standardization in many areas, both in connection with the BioStoffV and within the individual work areas. Following the example of the laboratory area, the note now also applies to animal husbandry (Annex 4 to Section 16, Paragraph I.b, GenTSV) that animal rooms must be kept clean and tidy. This is accompanied by the requirement that only required materials and equipment should be available in the animal rooms. Anything not immediately necessary must be stored appropriately outside the animal rooms. Furthermore, it is pointed out that sharp and pointed objects, such as needles, should only be used if absolutely necessary. In this case, safe disposal containers must be used to minimize the risk of injury and thus also the risk of contamination for staff. In the event of a release of genetically modified microorganisms, appropriate disinfectants and cleaning materials must be kept on hand to prevent the unintentional release of GMOs from the genetic engineering facility. The specifications of the hygiene plan apply here, which must also contain measures to be taken in the event of such contamination. For this reason, the hygiene plan, along with the operating instructions and the skin protection plan, must be made accessible to staff at a suitable location. It is advisable to present the hygiene plan in tabular form to provide better clarity. Ideally, it should be displayed in the sink or entrance area. A change in the regulations also applies to dealing with vermin. While previously it was only prescribed that vermin infestation must be combated immediately, it is now required that preventative measures be taken.
