From March 2021 - What changes for the S1 animal husbandry sector with the new GenTSV?

Dr. Annabel Höpfner

There must be easily accessible washing facilities.

The new GenTSV has been in force since March 2021. Previous AGCT Gentechik.report texts already pointed out changes for S1 laboratories and S1 greenhouses. What changes will there be to the structural and technical measures in S1 animal husbandry areas?

Compared to the previous GenTSV, not all that much has changed in this regard in the new GenTSV. As a logical consequence of the previous requirements that hands must be washed immediately after contamination or after handling animals, the new GenTSV (Annex 4 to Section 16) now includes the requirement that easily accessible washing facilities for cleaning hands must be available. As is already known from other work areas, this washing facility must be equipped with hand soap, disinfectant, and disposable towels, all of which must be located in separate dispensers. Furthermore, the structural and technical safety measures in animal holding rooms have remained the same. However, they are better presented in the clearer summary. Therefore, it is still necessary to shield the animal holding rooms. The animal holding rooms and associated changing rooms and showers for employees should be located in a separate area of the building. In addition, the animal holding rooms must be sufficiently large, have adequate ventilation, and be easy to clean. To prevent the unwanted spread of animals, the rooms must continue to be escape-proof and lockable.

In the upcoming AGCT-Gentechnikik. report The organizational safety measures in animal husbandry are discussed.
