Marginal area of novel foods and food ingredients

Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 on novel foods, amending Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council and repealing Regulation (EC) No 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council and Commission Regulation (EC) No 1852/2001 ((EU) 2015/2283) has been amended. The regulation as such now only covers a marginal area of novel foods and food ingredients, which are not covered by Regulation 1830/16, i.e., the regulation on genetically modified food, feed and additives. The Novel Food Regulation was amended by Regulation (EU) 2019/1381 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 (OJ L 231, p. 1, 25). The changes largely affect the authorisation of the placing on the market of novel foods, whereby the application must comply with standard data formats. The provisions on transparency and confidentiality have been adapted to comply with data protection regulations.
