Subordinate regulations on hazardous substances law changed

Dr. Petra Kauch

In March 2020, some sub-legal regulations in the hazardous substances law (genetic engineering regulations, incidentally, = “basic module”), which is also relevant for genetic laboratories, changed.

These include TRGS 900 (Workplace Exposure Limits) and TRGS 903 (Biological Limit Values, BGW), as well as TRGS 905 (List of Carcinogenic, Germ Cell Mutagenic, or Reproductive Toxic Substances). The revised version of TRGS 903 (Biological Limit Values, BGW) was created due to the transition to the so-called mean value concept, although it contains the note that the list of substances has not yet been fully reviewed with regard to this value. TRGS 905 has been adapted to the CLP Regulation and the Hazardous Substances Ordinance and, in addition to the CLP Regulation, has been expanded to include "arsenious acid." All amended TRGS can be viewed on the website of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAUA) .
