Since March 1, 2021, training via electronic communication tools has been permitted in the S1 area and is being carried out in many laboratories. What needs to be taken into account and what pitfalls may arise have already been discussed in AGCT Genetic Engineering. Report 10/2023 from 30.10.2023 and in AGCT Genetic Engineering. Report 02/2021 dated February 26, 2021. However, it is imperative to note that in the case of electronic instruction, a success assessment (exam) is necessary (Section 17 (4) Sentence 4 of the GenTSV). However, the GenTSV does not provide any formal requirements regarding the form such an assessment should take. In daily laboratory and instruction practice, eight to ten multiple-choice questions with three possible answers each on the most important content of an instruction (notice status, workplace and system-related content, documentation, etc.) have proven to be effective. The success rate of correct answers should be at least 50%. My recommendation is to be a little stricter and demand at least 75% correct answers. This is because laboratory safety is still an often underestimated topic, especially at universities and among students. Furthermore, please ensure that the questions were answered independently and without outside help. Of course, the signed training form with reference to the electronic means of communication and the most important contents of your training must not be missing.
Tip : Would you like to create a performance review in PDF format with interactive checkboxes? Unfortunately, many versions of Microsoft Office don't allow you to export these elements to PDF documents. The freely available OpenOffice package offers a solution.
