Biosafety Consultant

Dr. Gerhard Danneberg studied biology and chemistry at the University of Cologne and received his doctorate in 1987 with a dissertation on the physiology of denitrification in Azospirillum brasilense. Following a period as a postdoc at the University of Cologne, he worked as a microbiologist and GLP study leader at the Battelle Institute in Frankfurt from 1990 to 1993. Since 1993, as a microbiologist, he has held the position of laboratory manager and project leader under the Genetic Engineering Safety Ordinance (GenTSV) at the Institute for Safety in Biotechnology of TÜV Hessen e. V., later TÜV Süddeutschland Bau und Betrieb GmbH. He is a long-standing occupational safety specialist and a lecturer for TÜV Süd Academy and DECHEMA in the field of hygiene and occupational safety.

Until the end of June 2022, he was Head of the Safety and Security Office of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Bonn. There, he served as the Chief Safety Officer for the Bonn site and as the "Genetic Engineering Coordination Officer" for the Executive Board for all DZNE sites in Germany. He currently serves as Chief Safety Officer for the German Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (DECHEMA).

Dr. Danneberg has been working for AGCT Consulting GmbH since the end of 2022 as a BBS, consultant, and speaker in the field of genetic engineering and the Biological Agents Ordinance. He has been a speaker at AGCT Consulting GmbH since 2020. At AGCT Consulting GmbH's continuing education events, he lectures on the topics of hazardous substances and radiation protection law and the consequences for laboratory organization, as well as on occupational health and safety regulations, including the Biological Agents Ordinance. Since 2021, he has also been working for AGCT Consulting GmbH as a consultant and external BBS. He oversees application procedures for genetic engineering facilities and advises on genetic engineering facilities at safety levels 1 and 2.

Dr. Danneberg is officially recognized as a BBS in genetic engineering facilities according to Section 28 Paragraph 2, Section 30 GenTSV and is a qualified person according to Section 2 No. 11 BioStoffV.

Dr. Danneberg is the most experienced biologist on the AGCT Consulting GmbH team. He has more than 30 years of professional experience in management positions. He is also well-versed in communicating with regulatory and supervisory authorities for genetic engineering facilities and prepares expert opinions for industry in the areas of biological safety, hygiene, toxicology, equipment safety, and safety in genetic engineering.

As a Biosafety Consultant at AGCT Consulting GmbH, Dr. Danneberg is also responsible for the areas of genetic engineering and the Biological Agents Ordinance as well as occupational safety.
